Are you as tired as I am from seeing all the Farmhouse style décor or flat gray walls in the last couple of years? It’s no secret that the pandemic motivated many homeowners to expand on their home decorating ideas. With many of us being stuck inside, all together, and with not many options for places to go, we thrived on the idea of making our homes the most comfortable and relaxing spaces possible. Now, that may have led to a long honey-do list like my better half received, along with LOTS of DIY YouTube videos and Tik Toks. Here are my 4 favorite trends from 2022!
Green & Brown
Who doesn’t love a good pop of color to elevate a room? According to Sherwin Williams, Benjamin Moore, PPG, and more top paint companies the top paint color trend was: Green, in many shades I might add. Again, I’d credit the pandemic for this one. We were all home, looking at the same gray or beige walls that at one point in time was popular, and thought, “I really miss color and being outside”. Hence, our beloved green became popular, beating out hues of blue (which has been increasingly growing in popularity) I might add! Another color trend worth mentioning is Brown, from deep chocolate tones to lighter caramel shades, brown also made it’s comeback in 2022. Not just paint though, from textured walls to furniture and accent pieces, the rich color palette adds that something extra in any room.
Vintage & Repurposed Furniture
If you’re like me and when you moved into your first tiny apartment or that first starter home, all those years ago, you were probably given all the furniture your parents, family, or friends didn’t have space for anymore, right? Super helpful when you need furniture and don’t quite have the budget to fill multiple rooms, but now you might be thinking, “Should I just get rid of it?”. Maybe it was the side table from your Grandma’s house, the buffet that was a staple in your parent’s house growing up, or that brown and mustard yellow “ugly chair” from the 70’s that you don’t really know where it came from. Great news! If you’re like me and hung onto those pieces all this time, vintage furniture and style is back! In the last couple of years, we’ve seen so many changes when it comes to buying and selling: inflation and supply chain issues not to be forgotten. When there were wait times for pieces, people thought-“Hey I can just repurpose this into what I want!” With a majority of people home more often, they’ve had more time to take on those crafty projects and create glamourous pieces from what they already have!
Biophilic Designs
Let me nerd out on you for just a second: when I first read up on this trend, I had NO idea what it meant. The specific definition for this one is based on Biophilia, or: a hypothetical human tendency to interact or be closely associated with other forms of life in nature – thank you Merriam-Webster! In short terms, 2022 was the year to experiment with bringing our green friends (plants) inside. From plant walls to incorporating hanging plants in their bedrooms or bathrooms (I’m guilty of having them hanging in my bathroom!) this trend expanded on the “let’s put plants on the windowsill to add a little something” to help reconnect our homes with the calming environment nature can offer us, and maybe didn’t even realize.
Bold Patterns
According to majority of the articles I read on 2022 Home Décor trends, one thing was pretty unanimous: 2022 would be filled with fun for design! I hate to bring it up again, but we can thank COVID for the bold choices many selected when redecorating their spaces. Looking at the same four walls can drive anyone to decide on that yellow damask wallpaper to spice it up, or maybe it’s the bright blue pillow shams to add a much-needed pop of color. One thing is for sure, homeowners were looking to add a more personalized style to their homes is 2022. So, go ahead and grab those furry pillows you were eyeing at the store, or take the risk and mix it up with your patterns, in my opinion if you love it that’s all that matters!
I’m already looking forward to the fun and interesting trends of 2023, what do you think they’ll be?
